The new Intel SSD DC S4600 series from the Intel SSD portfolio is ideally suited for deployment in datacenters and enterprise environments. Compared to the DC S3610 series released in Q3 2016, this new SSD family delivers significantly lower power consumption. Especially in datacenters, power efficiency is a decisive factor. While the new Intel SSD models consume slightly more power in idle mode at 0.9 watts compared to 0.53 watts, active operating power consumption of the S4600 series is reduced by several hundred milliwatts.
Since active operation is the standard state in modern datacenters, where SSDs are under constant load, the reduced power consumption of the new Intel SSDs becomes a clear advantage. Although the S4600 series is more than 1.5 years newer, the price-per-gigabyte ratio is still more attractive than that of the Intel DC S3610 series.

This allows datacenter operators to equip their infrastructures with high-capacity storage at comparatively low investment costs. The new Intel SSD series is therefore also highly attractive from a cost perspective. Integrating these SSDs into RAID arrays is now significantly more economical as well, enabling high availability configurations that would previously only have been possible at much higher costs using older Intel SSD models.
Compared to the S3610 series from 2015, the Intel DC S4600 SSD family offers considerably improved write performance of up to 260 MB/s, while read performance is slightly lower.
Thanks to this high write performance, the new Intel SSD series is particularly attractive for datacenter applications. With Intel® SSDs for datacenters, we provide best-in-class storage solutions capable of eliminating bottlenecks. Intel® datacenter SSDs modernize your infrastructure and help meet today’s digital requirements regarding performance, reliability, and endurance.
